“Exposed timber roof trusses and stonework create a considered material palette in this former foundry”
This exceptional Grade II-listed three-bedroom house forms part of Perran Foundry, a former steelworks in Perranarworthal, Cornwall. Inside, exposed original stonework is a market of the building’s storied past, while 2,500 sq ft of space extends over three storeys, culminating in a voluminous principal bedroom on the top floor. The house has a private interior courtyard, and a ground-floor veranda provides space for sitting out. Truro train station is a 15-minute drive away, and runs services to London Paddington in approximately four and a half hours.

History
Perran Foundry was developed by the Fox family of Falmouth in the late 18th century, to manufacture the machinery required by the burgeoning copper mining industry. It used large waterwheels powered by the Kennall River to crush the ore, a replica of which stands in front of the building today.
Throughout the 19th century the foundry increased the range of its products and supplied both local and overseas markets, becoming an integral part of the Foxes’ industrial empire. It achieved a national and international reputation for the quality of its products, and supplied the pumps, valves and pipework for the famous Cornish Beam engines.
After the collapse of the copper mining industry in Cornwall in the 1880s, the site was used for a time for the manufacture of woollen goods and agricultural products, before being transformed into a residential development in recent years.
