Our guest on this week’s podcast is Duncan McLeod, the London-based architect and founder of Studio McLeod (and the creator of what might just be the world’s first artificial turf-clad sliding staircase). ‘There’s always a way’ is this thoughtful man’s motto, one that sometimes means pushing the envelope – and discovering “the magic of architecture” in the process, as our host, Matt Gibberd discovers.
“I’ve known Duncan for many years now and he’s definitely one of the good guys. We first met when I was commissioned to write a piece for The World of Interiors about the amazing home in west London he shares with his wife, Lyndsay Milne McLeod, and their son, Oban. Duncan’s kindly invited me back to the house to record this episode.
“We’re following the usual ‘Homing In’ format, so I’ve asked him to discuss a home from his past, his current place and an imaginary home of the future.
“He tells me about how growing up on building sites brought him close to his father, the importance of magic in architecture and why he believes you should always design a house as if you’re playing hide-and-seek in it.
“Duncan certainly isn’t the first guest to shed a tear or two on this podcast and I think this is a really lovely, heartfelt conversation.”
