Andreas Gursky at the Hayward Gallery, London
The Hayward Gallery reopens this month for its 50th anniversary year, having taken a two-year hiatus for refurbishment. With its re-opening comes the first major UK retrospective of acclaimed German photographer Andreas Gursky’s work. Known for his large-scale architectural and landscape photos, Gursky offers an alternative view of how our surroundings are constructed, understood and used.
Contemporary ceramics classes at Turning Earth, London
Turning Earth studio opened in Hoxton in 2013, with a mission to redefine the way people approach ceramics in London. Their hand-building and wheel-throwing ceramics classes proved so popular, they opened a second studio in E10 last year. Sign up for one of their classes or courses to create your own contemporary ceramics for your home.
Seurat to Riley: The Art of Perception at The Holburne Museum, Bath
This exhibition takes a scientific approach to colour theory, examining the artist and the viewer’s differing perceptions of colour in art. Featuring works by a diverse array of artists, from Georges Seurat to Josef Albers, the show spans 150 years of art history.
Architecture on Stage: Adam Caruso and Peter St John at the Barbican, London
In the latest of the ‘Architecture on Stage’ series – a programme of events devised by The Architecture Foundation and the Barbican – the renowned architects behind Caruso St John will present a series of short talks inspired by Louis Sullivan’s ‘Kindergarten Chats’. Established in 1990, the practice’s cultural projects include Nottingham Contemporary, The Millbank Project at Tate Britain and the 2017 RIBA Stirling Prize-winning Newport Street Gallery, commissioned by Damien Hirst.
Weaving Workshop at Ray-Stitch, London
Ray-Stitch is an independent haberdashers in north London, offering a coveted range of classes. This January they’re offering a loom-weaving class for beginners, in conjunction with Peas and Needles, to create bespoke pieces for your home. (Take a tour of Ray-Stitch founder Rachel Hart’s renovated 1920s factory apartment in Hackney.)
The Land We Live In – The Land We Left Behind at Hauser & Wirth, Somerset
Curated by Adam Sutherland and featuring the work of over 50 international artists, architects and creatives including Carsten Höller, Frank Lloyd Wright and Roni Horn, Hauser & Wirth’s latest exhibition tells the story of our evolving connection to the land.
