We like to imagine that, back in the day, the street on which this Edwardian red-brick beauty sits would be bustling with instrumentalists and singers alike, getting set for a stint of music-making. Nowadays, however, it’s a more peaceful – but no less pleasing – affair. In fact, the residential road is lined with characterful old warehouses and leads to Acton Park, perfect for those in pursuit of greenery. When it comes to the building itself, we particularly love the capital letters that spell out ‘Stanley House Studios’ above the communal entrance – a charming homage to its heritage.
The apartment itself is located on the third floor (there are four in total) and is an exercise in light and space. Original Crittall windows in the dual-aspect, open-plan kitchen and living room allow the sun’s rays to illuminate the interior, while hardwood boards, reclaimed from a local school, define the flooring. White walls allow these handsome features to shine and complete the backdrop, which runs into the two bedrooms and bathroom.
The current owners, who are aptly musicians, have created a set-up that also hits the right notes. The simple palette has allowed them to reflect their own personality on the space (as future residents can easily do too): an array of art – from paintings to framed film posters – hangs on the walls, while colourful furniture and objects, such as wooden chairs in primary tones and a cheery red toaster, complete the spirit-lifting scheme. Also striking a chord is the office nook, which is currently being used as a music studio and is hidden behind a curved wooden wall – a slick, contemporary addition that adds intrigue to the place. Consider our interest piqued.
