Le Creuset’s new Azure collection finds a perfect home in Ella Jones’ expressive interior
A New Tribe is the beautifully curated homeware store on Hackney Road in east London that Ella founded in 2016. Given her business, Ella is an advocate for investing in your interiors, whether that’s knick-knacks for the mantelpiece or pots and pans for the kitchen. As she says, your home “is where you spend your time, it reflects your personality. I think having treasured pieces that you’ve collected and really considered is very important.”
The same goes for acquiring kitchenware, with Ella preferring to “invest in pieces that not only look beautiful but last a lifetime, like Le Creuset.” Ella, like us here at The Modern House, is a long-standing fan of Le Creuset’s dependable cookware. Her existing collection includes a pair of salt and pepper mills and a ‘Cast Iron’ casserole dish that was a gift from her partner, Magnus’, parents.
The couple put their heart into their home in Walthamstow, which they share with their dog, Peggy. “Colour was really important to us when we were doing the renovation,” she says, reflecting on its transformation. “We didn’t want it to be too white or minimal.” Instead, the couple employed Le Corbusier’s colour theory, in which the architect championed the idea of creating a statement wall to draw the eye. In this case, the pair landed on a shade of blue that reminds Ella “of the Mediterranean, being in the sun and on holiday”. It also reminds her of being in Morocco and visiting the Jardin Majorelle at the Yves Saint Laurent Museum. Along with the kitchen wall, blue accents run throughout her interiors, from ceramics and candles to soft furnishings. Naturally, then, “the Azure range, which is also inspired by the Mediterranean, just fits for us,” she says.
When hosting dinner parties with friends, Ella and Magnus favour serving food family-style in the middle of the table, with good-looking dishes that double as centrepieces. “We definitely look for something that’s high quality and will last a really long time. If it’s beautiful as well as functional, such as Le Creuset’s Azure range, that’s a winning combination.”
