After showing us around their new-build family home in Islington, set designer Poppy Bartlett and art director Ben Kelway share their house style.
You’re happiest at home when…
It’s a sunny morning and the house is filled with light.
How would you describe the interiors of your house?
Architecturally clean and modern, but not minimal.
If you could only save one thing, what would it be?
Our art book collection.
What was the last thing you bought for the house?
A textile panel by artist Patricia Perales Garcia which hangs in our main living space.
Top three coffee table books?
It’s constantly changing, but at the moment it’s: Stage and Television Design of Japan Volume I and II; Freestyle by Tim Street-Porter and Cy Twombly Home and Studios.
If money was no object, what changes would you make?
The house is fantastic but we don’t have a garden, so, if we could, maybe we would buy the house behind us and make one!
You’re having people over for dinner: what do you cook?
Italian – pasta pasta pasta.
What does a Sunday here look like?
We have a new baby and a toddler so it looks a lot like all of us napping at various points in the day.
What are the best things about the neighbourhood?
Highbury Fields; Freightliners Farm is special for kids, and then Moonlight Supermarket on Holloway Road, which is open 24 hours, 365 days a year. The Lamb pub is great, all candlelit, and Trullo restaurant for pasta.
How long will you be here for?
Until the kids outgrow their little rooms – maybe five more years?
