Why fashion designer Eudon Choi loves Mexican modernism, bargain furniture and bright colours
Eudon Choi is a fashion designer celebrated for his masterful craftsmanship, clean architectural lines and a bold colour palette. As a guest on The Modern House Podcast, he was tasked by host Matt Gibberd to select his top three living spaces around the world – and as you’ll learn, his favourite buildings share the same sensibilities as his clothes. We first met Eudon at his apartment in Shoreditch, east London, where he lives with his partner, Neil Byrne, the founder of Tomorrow PR. “We loved how the space opens up as you move throughout,” he told us when we visited, reflecting on his first impressions of his home. “It’s not everyone’s cup of tea but for us it was just so interesting architecturally.” They’ve since punctuated the split-level apartment, set within a contemporary new build, with vibrant tones, such as cobalt blue, lightning yellow and grass green. “Any brave colour choices we make are almost entirely down to Eudon,” Neil noted.
The designer says he gets his eye for aesthetics from his fashionable grandmother and mother. Born and raised in Korea, Eudon recalls rummaging through his mother’s wardrobe and playing dress-up as a child. His penchant for clothes led him to train in menswear design and hone his tailoring skills in Seoul. But London, where he launched his namesake label in 2009, beckoned. “Back in Korea, you get taught how to do things, but here it’s all about exploring, expressing and learning for yourself,” Eudon says. “Moving to the UK was really eye-opening. I learned a lot about myself.”
