The Everyday Has a Certain Strangeness, St Peter’s Church, Cambridge
See work of The Modern House friends including Alessandra Taccia, Sarah Kaye Rodden, Yasuyo Harvey and Olivia Fiddes under one roof at St Peter’s church in Cambridge, in cooperation with Kettle’s Yard. Exploring the quiet beauty and humanity revealed in everyday life, ‘The Everyday Has a Certain Strangeness’ looks to be an elegant and thoughtful exhibition of exciting new artwork.
Summer Exhibition 2019, Royal Academy of Arts, London
Now in its 251st year, the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition offers a typically diverse body of work from world-renowned artists and young emerging talent. Under the coordination of Jock McFadyen, expect an eclectic and occasionally sardonic show featuring the work of artists such as Polly Morgan, Banksy, Tracey Emin, and Antony Gormley.
Leeds Festival of Architecture 2019
After a successful instalment last year, the Leeds Festival of Architecture promises an interesting range of talks and expositions from well-known regional developers and designers. Centred around the historic Leeds Corn Exchange building, talks and exhibitions will explore ‘the future of Leeds, the future of residential and the future of the workplace’.
Knock Nothing Down, Royal Academy of Arts, London
Another one at the RA! Referencing buildings by the late Will Alsop such as the weightless-seeming Sharp Centre for Design in Ontario and focusing on the themes of preservation, innovation, and demolition, this new exhibition from the Royal Academy explores how new cities might be built ‘above existing ones’, without harming the historic built environment.
Green Rooms Botanical Market, Canopy Market, King’s Cross, London
Joining the popular Canopy Market at King’s Cross for the first time, Green Rooms offers the opportunity to find the perfect houseplant, terrarium or potted herbs for the budding gardener. Workshops throughout the weekend offer guides to terrarium making, frame making and herbal drink creation.
#madein1989: 30 years of the Design Museum, Design Museum, London
Join the Design Museum for a night of live music, displays and events as they celebrate 30 years since their founding. Highlights include music by the progressive ‘Unit 137’ collective and commemorative designs representing the number 30 from names including John Pawson, Margaret Calvert, Paul Smith and Quentin Blake.
