In the last three issues of The Modern House Magazine, we have given a number of pages over to an image maker whose work we admire for our ‘Portfolio’ series. For each, we have tasked the contributor to create original work that responds to the theme of ‘home’ in their own idiosyncratic way – Leandro Farina created a series of sculptural compositions from building materials and found matter, photographer Cathy Hyland captured landscapes of her native Britain and, most recently, Jade Danielle Smith lensed everyday scenes at the Barbican Centre as it celebrates 40 years of its home in London’s cultural scene. Now, for our autumn/winter issue, due to be published in September 2022, we are excited to be working with someone very special indeed: you.
That’s right, we’re calling you to submit your photographic responses to the theme of ‘home’, with the entries we get going to a panel for inclusion in Issue No.5 and sharing across our social channels. The judges include our own editorial team, design agency Studio Small, creative director of magCulture, Jeremy Leslie, founder of Clo Studio, Lauren Faye, and photographer Ronan Mckenzie.
We’re keeping the parameters deliberately broad as we want to be surprised by what we see – does home mean a steaming bathtub and your favourite candle? Is it a chaotic Sunday lunch with your family? Or is it more about capturing a mood of familiarity and safety?
Whatever it is, we want to see it. Entries can be taken on film or digital cameras (including phones) and can date from whenever. We do, however, ask that you keep your submissions to three photographs only. Please also make sure that the photo is your original work and has not been published elsewhere. For a full list of the entry terms, click here.
To enter, submit a maximum of 3 high-res images (preferably not via an expirable link) to magazine@themodernhouse.com by Friday 29 July at 6pm. If selected, we will be in touch by mid-August about printing your work. Good luck – we can’t wait to see your images.
