After sharing our sources of inspiration for architecture and plants, we’re sharing some British interior designers to follow on Instagram.
Instagram and interiors are natural bedfellows, with the platform being overrun with house envy-inducing shots, and more hashtags to get your #interiorfix than we care to mention. With so much out there, however, sometimes it’s best to spend your browsing time on seeing how the professionals do it. Our rundown of British interior designers to follow on Instagram will steer you in the right direction.

We’ve long swooned over the calming, restful and understated interiors of designer Louisa Grey, and even paid her a visit at home for our ‘My Modern House‘ series. We check in on her feed for a fix of calming visuals, which focus on natural materials, landscapes and completed projects.
‘As well as a portfolio to share our own design vision, we select imagery from architects, photographers, designers, artist and makers who inspire us and share our philosophy and design principles. Selecting and working with a sensitive colour palette, we create a visual meditation for our followers, leaving them feeling balanced, nourished and calm,’ says Louisa Grey.

Some interior designers’ feeds is effectively a mood board of references, ideas, details and projects that are both in development and completed. As is the case with Studio Ashby’s account, where the designer’s eye for detail, material and artwork come together in an ever-inspiring mix. ‘I enjoy being able to show our followers the personal touches and human side of our work,’ says Sophie Ashby, who heads up the studio.

With theatre design backgrounds, Jordan Cluroe and Russell Whitehead retain a sense of spectacle in their bold and colourful interiors, which get us double tapping. Their feed is a mash-up of their own work and international projects from designers they love – ‘collaboration has always been key to our work and our Instagram account acts as a platform to showcase our process and that of other new talents,’ they say.

Following your favourite interior designers on Instagram isn’t just about seeing their completed projects, which is why we love the #bts look provided by rising star Fran Hickman. Her account is a mix of her own work and influences from her daily life, which seems to include an enviable amount of travel. Of Instagram, Fran says she finds the platform a ‘constant source of design inspiration.’

Reflecting on the role of Instagram in the design process, Tom Bartlett, of architecture and interior practice Waldo Works, say ‘Instagram is becoming a more and more useful sourcing tool. However, I think you can find yourself in a ghetto of particular genres quite quickly if you are not careful.’ Lucky then, that Tom’s eclectic, trend-defying work never fails to surprise and inspire.

Rose Uniacke is a designer of many talents, creating interiors, furniture and products, while also selling antiques selected for their elegance and timeless appeal. Her Instagram feed reflects her varied output, with shots of covetable furniture, fabric samples and interiors shared with her signature #ruininteriors hashtag.
